Yin Yarn

With exactly opposite colours on its two faces, this sling bag is a wearable that comfortably holds essentials. The only one of its kind in the world, it is crafted using a self developed approach to ply split braiding's application. Designed to preserve the centuries old dying Indian craft, keeps the technique's integrity but brings relevance to the modern day.

The newly discovered application unlocks endless design possibilities without compromising Indian craftsmen, keeping tradition and local economies alive.

TESTS

Building on an understanding of the basics, I attempted my own patterns and three dimensional

forms as well.

Next I explored image

motifs and finally a

functional object as well.

A diverse range of knotting and braiding techniques

I explored, to understand their structural, functional, textural

and aesthetic qualities.

My goal was to revive this technique through a visible wearable, designed to showcase its full potential, applying its structural and aesthetic properties in the most functional way.
