Reishi Vase

What began as an exploration of an emerging mycelium leather, the Reishi Vase brings nature into the heart of your home. The texture, achieved through laser engraving, invites touch, helping familiarise the material into daily life. Numerous crevices and openings resembling natural landscapes allow for countless compositions, each unique to you.

The vase is merely a suggestion for a future where biomaterials are not showcased, but integrated with technology and lived with.

TESTS

My vision to

make the material friendly was to introduce it in with a familiar everyday object — one that invites touch.

The material has a hold to itself, giving it sculptural tendencies.

The material was not comforting.
Mycelium, being a fungal material, evokes discomfort or hesitation. Additionally, MYCOWORKS™ positions its products within the luxury market, which can create a sense of emotional disconnect.

Animal leather today is used in an insensitive manner where we forget that it comes from animals. With Reishi, I wanted people to be sensitive and reminded that the material was live and grown.

I designed to make my object to be natural looking and responsive to human touch.
